How Do I Configure Tools and Accommodations for Formative Assessments?

Enhanced accommodation assessments have several tools and accommodation features to help meet students' needs during the assessment process. District administrators and assessment facilitators can manage these tools at the formative assessment and tracker levels. 

Note: If you make changes to the tools and accommodations on an active assessment, any students currently taking the assessment will need to log out and back in to see the changes.

In Global Navigation, click the Trackers tab [1] and then click the name of the tracker [2].

To configure tools and accommodations at the assessment level, click the title of the standard that contains the formative assessment you would like to configure the settings for.

Click the Assess tab.

If the district administrator has allowed tools and accommodations for your assessment, the buttons in the Tools and Accommodations section will display the status of each tool and accommodation [1]. 

A shaded button indicates the tool or accommodation is active in the assessment [2]. 

An unshaded button indicates the tool or accommodation is not active in the assessment [3]. 

To allow a tool or accommodation, click the item's button [4]. 

To add a calculator to the assessment, click one of the calculator buttons and select an option from the corresponding menu [5].

To add a ruler to the assessment, click the ruler button and select an option from the corresponding menu [6].

If tools were added to the assessment as part of the question authoring process, click the Question Level Tools toggle to switch those tools on or off for students [7]. 

To restore the default settings that were configured for the tracker, click the Restore Default button [8].

Notes: 

  • The Desmos calculators are only available in districts that have paid Desmos subscriptions. 
  • You can add more than one Desmos calculator to an assessment.
  • One of three Desmos  basic calculator options will be available: Scientific, Four Function, or Graphing.
  • If your district has a paid state calculator subscription,  your state calculator will also be available here.
  • If you make changes to the tools and accommodations on an active assessment, any students currently taking the assessment will need to log out and back in to see the changes.

To save the tools and accommodations configurations, click the Close button.

To configure tools and accommodations for all formative assessments in a tracker, return to the tracker and click the Tools and Accommodations button.

In the Tools and Accommodations Settings tray, you can configure the default settings for all the formative assessments in the tracker. 

To allow a tool or accommodation, click the corresponding check box [1]. 

To include a calculator or ruler, select the calculator or ruler type and then specify the calculator or ruler options by clicking the corresponding radio button [2].  

If tools were added to the assessment as part of the question authoring process, click the Question Level Tools toggle to switch those tools on or off [3].  

To apply these settings to all formative assessments in the tracker, click the Apply to all formative assessments check box [4]. Selecting this option will overwrite any custom tools and accommodations settings in any assessments in the tracker.

To save your changes, click the Save button [5].
