This article describes how to create a new schedule for a local classroom (item bank) assessment that you or someone else in your district created.
Tip: Only create a new schedule if there are no existing schedules for the students involved. If there is an existing schedule of the assessment, consider editing the schedule instead, which allows you to make changes such as adjusting the testing window or administration settings.
Scheduling permissions: A DTC may schedule classroom assessments that use only items from item banks licensed by the district. If a classroom assessment includes items from an item bank that only the school licensed, a DTC may not schedule that assessment. Only a teacher or an STC at the school owning the item bank can schedule that assessment. Teachers may only schedule assessments that were created by someone at their school or by a district administrator in the district.
Step 1: Locate the Assessment
To locate the assessment from the main dashboard:
Under the Assessments menu, choose Classroom. The Search for Assessments page appears and the following filters are available:
Set the filters:
- Type: Classroom (required)
- Subject (required)
- Core (optional)
- Title (optional)
All assessments with that search criteria appear at the bottom of the page.
Step 2: Filter by Author (optional)
Choose the author of the assessment from the drop-down to narrow the list of matching assessments.
Step 3: Edit the Assessment (optional)
(If you would like to schedule the assessment with no changes, proceed to Step 4, below).
Note: If you choose to make any changes you will be prompted to rename the assessment and you will become the author of the “new” assessment.
To edit an assessment:
Click the edit icon to the right of the assessment.
- Make the desired changes and click the blue Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.
- You will be prompted to save a copy. A new title is suggested. You can use the suggested one or change it to a new title of your choice.
- Click the blue SAVE button.
- Return to Steps 2 and 3 to locate your new/edited assessment.
Step 4: Schedule the Assessment
This step explains how to create an entirely new schedule. (If there is an existing schedule for an assessment, consider editing an existing schedule instead.
To schedule an assessment:
Click the Create New Schedule icon.
Verify that the assessment appears in the green "Selected Assessment" section.
Select a district.
Click the + next to one or more schools so that it appears in a green "Selected Schools" section.
In the "Classrooms/Students" section, select a school (required) and other options from the drop-down menus.
Possible recipients are then listed.
Click the + next to a class or classes to receive the assessment schedule. (Note: Teachers can only select their own classes.)
The selected classes appear in a green "Selected Classrooms/Students" section.
To select only specific students from the scheduled class’s roster to take the assessment, click the Limit to Specific Students icon.
Place a check mark next to each student’s name. Then click Close.
Note: If text-to-speech is enabled for the district, this dialog box shows which students have text-to-speech enabled for the scheduled assessment. This column is read-only. To make changes to a student's text-to-speech status, an administrator may edit the student's user account. See Text-to-Speech Functionality for more information.
Step 5: Add the Administration Settings
The Administration Settings section of the Schedule an Assessment page allows you to choose various testing features.
Specify when the assessment is available to students. Add a "Start Date" and "Start Time", as well as an "End Date" and "End Time."
- The "Start Time" and "End Time" control daily visibility to students while the test window is open. The assessment appears on student dashboards after the "Start Time" each day and disappears each day at the "End Time". (An assessment in progress is not terminated at the "End Time.")
- Students cannot begin taking a test if the testing window is within one minute of ending.
Other Testing Features
You may also choose to add:
- Test Duration for a timed test
- Display Student Results to show students how their results (and, optionally, the correct answers) after they've completed the assessment
- enCASE Kiosk for secure testing
- Real-Time Proctoring for monitoring students as they take the assessment

Step 6: Save Changes
Click Save Changes when you're finished scheduling the assessment.
Students are now ready to test.
Students will see the assessment on their dashboards according to the test window. However, if your district allows you to control the visibility with an ON/OFF switch, you must turn on the assessment when you want students to see it. Refer to Controlling Assessment Visibility for instructions.
