Controlling Assessment Visibility

Updated Jul 30, 2021

When students log in, they can see on their dashboards all the assessments available to them during the open testing window of an assessment schedule. As a teacher or administrator, however, you can control the visibility of individual assessments, even if the testing window is open.

Using the Assessment ON/OFF Switch

If your District Test Coordinator (DTC) has set up the optional ON-OFF switch for your district, you can control whether an assessment is visible to students during the open testing window using this switch. To do this:

  1. Look for the assessment on your dashboard. Alternatively, from the Assessments menu, choose Schedules and find the scheduled assessment.
  2. Click ON or OFF associated with any assessment and class block. ON means students will see it when they log in. OFF prevents students from seeing it when they log in.

The image below shows the ON-OFF options as they appear on the dashboard:

Click either OFF or ON

Limit Visibility to Certain Students

By default, all students in a classroom can see an available assessment. However, if the assessment should only be available to specific students (because the classroom is split or for any other reason), you may specify specific students to whom the test should be available. To do this, edit the assessment schedule as follows:

  1. From the Assessments menu, choose Schedules, and locate the assessment schedule.
  2. Click the Edit Schedules icon.

The Schedule an Assessment page opens. Look for the Selected Classrooms/Students section and click the Limit to Specific Students icon

Select the students who should see the assessment on their dashboards during the open testing window.

Edit the Testing Window

You may also edit the testing window of an assessment to control whether it is visible to students. To edit the testing window in the assessment schedule:

  1. From the Assessments menu, choose Schedules & Testing Status, and locate the assessment schedule.
  2. Click the Edit Schedules icon.

The Schedule an Assessment page opens. Look for the Testing Window section, which looks similar to this:

Edit fields here as needed.

Note: The image above is an example; available fields may vary, depending on your user role and the assessment schedule you are editing. If you are a teacher or school-level administrator, you may not be able to edit the End Date or End Time of a benchmark assessment at all. If you are working with a classroom assessment, you may be able to also edit Start Date and Start Time.
