A Match interaction presents two pools of tokens that must be correctly paired by the candidate.
This article provides step-by-step instructions to recreate the following item:
- In this item, the candidate drags tokens into the match interface to create logical pairings between the tokens in Token Pool 1 (Source Tokens) and Token Pool 2 (Destination Tokens). While this item uses only text-based tokens, ItemLogic also supports graphic and equation-based tokens.
- Tokens from Token Pool 1 are restricted to being placed only in spaces on the left side of the match interface, while tokens from Token Pool 2 must be placed on the right side.
Why Not Create an Associate Interaction?
Using the above example, Match interactions do provide a sort of "hint" to the correct answer in that the candidate is prohibited from making pairings they otherwise might make in a less restrictive (Associate interaction) environment, for example "Capulet" to "Lysander". However, whenever you are asking a candidate to pair two distinct types of objects ("character" to "play") from two separate pools of tokens, a Match interaction is recommended. Creating a Match Interaction
- In the item editor, click the plus sign and click Stem. This displays the Select Interaction Type window.
- Click the Match tab to reveal match-based interaction types.
- Select Match, then click Create Interaction.
- Add content to your stem prompt (ex: "Match the following characters to the Shakespeare play...").
Adding Source Tokens
Next, add tokens to the field labeled "Source Tokens." For this example, first enter "Capulet" , then click Add Text . The token will become listed similar to . Repeat the process to add the remaining tokens. Ensure each token has its own label (T1, T2, T3, ...).
Tip: You can quickly add tokens with key strokes: Enter the token name, then press [TAB] and then [ENTER].
Adding Destination Tokens
Next, add tokens to the field labeled "Destination Tokens". For this example, first enter "A Midsummer-Night's Dream", then click Add Text. The token will become listed. Repeat the process to add the remaining tokens. Ensure each token has its own label (T1, T2, T3, ...).
Defining Token Usage
By default, every source or destination token can be used an unlimited number of times. To set a minimum and maximum number of times a token can be used, click the Limits icon next to a token.
The Edit Match Limits dialog appears.
Enter the number of times the token MUST be used in the Min Uses field  (default is 0).Enter the most number of times the token can be used into the Max Uses field  (default is infinite). Click Submit .
Swapping Destination and Source Tokens
If you find that you need to move a token from being a Source Token to being a Destination Token (or vice versa), you can move the token from one spot to another. To do so:
Click on the gear icon  for the token you want to move and choose Relocate .
Two options appear on the screen: "Keep Here" or "Move Here". Choose Move Here to move the token.
The token is now in the other section.
Note: If you've already created matches using the token you move, you will need to recreate those matches.
Finally, you need to match up source tokens with destination tokens. By default, all pairs not listed in the "Matches" field will receive a score of -1.
To create a match:
- Click the Plus icon  for each match. For this example, click four times. This will create a blank source/destination interface for four matches.
- Click the source placeholder .
- Select the token number from the "Select Source" list .
- Click the Destination placeholder .
- Select the token number from the "Select Destination" list .
