How To Install the Data Gateway Agent

How To Install the Data Gateway Agent

From a high level, you'll have to install an older version of the DGA (v. 1.4.0.15), create the properties file, uninstall that older version, install the new version (v. 1.4.1.2) and restore the properties file. This is because the new version does not have a way to generate the properties file and you cannot use an old one from a previous installation.

Also, be aware that Skyward districts need a copy of the "openedge.jar" file in the Data Gateway Agent folder. This is covered at the end of this document.

  1. Download the two Data Gateway Agent installation files from Sharefile
    1. https://certicasolutions.sharefile.com/d-sb8a74eb5c1e4e95b
  2. Install the older version(v. 1.4.0.15) - Right-click and Run As Administrator the install.exe file
    1. Note that if you right-click and Run As Administrator then you'll have to right-click and Run As Administrator the Data Gateway Agent application
  3. Open the Data Gateway Agent application by right-clicking and Run As Administrator
  4. Settings are as follows:
    1. URL is one of the following:
      1. https://dg-tx.certifymydata.com/DataGatewayServer/
      2. https://dg-ao.certifymydata.com/DataGatewayServer/
      3. https://dg-cee.certifymydata.com/DataGatewayServer/
      4. https://dg-ca.certifymydata.com/DataGatewayServer/
        1. This is a good time to copy/paste the URL into a browser and check for a successful connection. If not successful you'll need to add the server's external IP address to our whitelist.
    2. User name
      1. dg_agent
    3. Password
      1. CONFIDENTIAL - to be stored somewhere soon
    4. Agent name must match the district's Agent Name in the Data Gateway Server
    5. Saving these settings will configure the DGA to:
      1. Point to our DGS instance and log in with the dg_agent account, and
      2. Log into the district's SIS database with the credentials that were previously entered when their Agent was created in the Data Gateway Server,
      3. Confirm the district's external IP address is whitelisted
    6. You might see a message that says "Successfully processed Status Notification (**WARNING** : No Data Sources found for Agent, database connectivity NOT tested)".
      1. If you see this message, update the JDBC password and make sure it's enabled.
      2. If that does not work, then edit a Data Upload and then save it.
    7. If everything is okay it will say "Successfully processed Status Notification, no Data Source errors detected."
  5. Before uninstalling the older version, copy/paste the properties file from the Data Gateway Agent folder to somewhere safe (desktop, etc.)
  6. Uninstall the older version by right-clicking and Run As Administrator the uninstall.exe file
  7. Install the newest version (v. 1.4.1.2) - Right-click and Run As Administrator the install.exe file
  8. Copy/paste the properties file to the Data Gateway Agent folder
  9. Restart both Data Gateway Agent Windows Services
  10. Confirm the Data Gateway Server says "Successfully processed Status Notification, no Data Source errors detected."

FOR SKYWARD DISTRICTS ONLY

  1. Copy the "openedge.jar" file from the Skyward DB server to the DGA computer
    1. FROM: (Usually) \Skyward\dlc\java folder
    2. TO: \Program Files (x86)\Data Gateway Agent\ClientLibraries
  2. Once installed, restart both Data Gateway Agent Windows Services
